SENSITIVITY STATEMENT

The basic building block of a modern light infantry force is the four man fire team. These teams at a minimum consist of four fundamental roles: a rifleman; a team leader, who is similarly equipped to the rifleman but may carry a radio & a set of optics like binoculars; a grenadier, who is likewise equipped like a rifleman but also carries a 40mm grenade launcher; and a SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) gunner who carries a light machine gun chambered for the same cartridge used by the rifleman & others. This set-up is all good & well considering that fire teams are not deployed independently but work as part of a larger squad which in turn works as part of a larger platoon. This model works well enough in a conventional setting, but there’s nothing conventional about black ops.

Black ops typically require a small unit that can operate independently & for periods of extended duration. The combat units deployed during black ops are designed to either come home once they capture the objective or not come home at all. For it’s latest mission, which is a kill or capture mission in the rugged terrain surrounding Walter’s Rock, the Task Force will deploy the simple fire team + one format. The plus one format uses the standard fire team model as the assault team & adds an additional field specialist based on the mission. On this team, the field specialist is an Air Force P.J. who will act as the team medic.

In order to keep the number of operatives to five, each team member must play multiple roles. The Team Leader (middle), for example, carries the long range radio & doubles as the team’s radio operator.
